MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has reached a new record high in daily ridership.
According to the rail management, a total of 403,128 passengers rode the MRT-3 trains on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 402,741 commuters on Feb. 3.
This is the highest ridership recorded by the MRT-3 since the EDSA rail line reopened in June 2020 amid the COVID pandemic.
The management attributed the surge in MRT-3 passengers to the rail line’s two-year rehabilitation program, including the overhaul of 72 light rail vehicles that was completed on Feb. 2.
The management continues to implement COVID protocols such as wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of the virus.
